Dolls of the Seasonal Festivals: Maruhei Bunko Collection -Happy Playing House-

This exhibition displays a collection of various dolls from the early Showa era (19th century), made by renowned Kyoto doll maker Ōki Heizō, which had been owned by the sake brewing Tatsuuma family. For this year’s special exhibition titled “Happy Playing House”, fascinating utensils and dolls used for playng house owned by Maruhei Bunko, the reference room of Maruhei Ōki Doll Store, are on display.

Please enjoy the exhibition of the dolls which heralds the arrival of spring, and take a close look at the small but extravagant figurines.

Sasabe Sakura Reference Room

Record at Ekiraku Sansou – Sasabe’s Cherry Blossom Garden Now and Then

Sasabe Shintarō (1887-1978）who devoted his life to the preservation of Japan’s ancient and wild cherry blossom trees, owned a forest called “Ekiraku Sansou” in Takadao, Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture, as a place to conduct research on cherry blossom tree cultivation. The entire volume of “Ekiraku Sansou Records” will be exhibited to reflect on how it was maintained and remained the center of his activities.

History of Traditional Sake Brewing

This exhibition introduces how the traditional sake brewing techniques that have been used since the Edo period(1603-1868) have evolved since the Meiji period (1868-1912).

The Sasabe Sakura Collection (entrusted to the museum by Nishinomiya City) is one of Japan’s foremost collections of materials regarding cherry blossom trees collected by Sasabe Shintaro, who devoted his life to protecting and nurturing indigenous Japanese cherry blossom trees.
This exhibition focuses on works from his collection related to cherry blossoms and poetry. We hope you will enjoy the world of poetry that blooming of cherry blossoms.
