The Sasabe Sakura Collection (entrusted to the museum by Nishinomiya City) is one of Japan’s foremost collections of materials regarding cherry blossom trees collected by Sasabe Shintaro, who devoted his life to protecting and nurturing indigenous Japanese cherry blossom trees.
Cherry blossoms, a seasonal hallmark of spring, have been cherished in various ways since ancient times—as subjects for creative works, objects of faith, and subjects for viewing. Among these places, Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, a renowned cherry blossom viewing spot with over 1,300 years of history, immortalized in poetry as a sacred place.
This exhibition highlights cherry blossom-themed art and crafts collected by Sasabe. There are works depicting famous cherry blossom viewing spots like Yoshino. We hope you to feel the history of the culture of cherishing cherry blossoms through this exhibition.
